GAW16 Dates

Suggested Deadlines [ UPDATED 23 JUNE 2008 ]

In light of the problems and delays with the process of obtaining the GAW data, changes are proposed n the timeline for GAW16. The schedule will be very tight and some changes in our procedure have resulted. All changes are shown below in RED text.

FRIDAY 7 MARCH:

List of potential presentation groups to mailing list. Participants may identify potential presentation groups of interest and begin group discussions of planned analyses and results through the GAW wiki. We hope that this will aid participants in coordinating analyses across sites and identifying analyses they may want to do to compare and contrast results with others in their group. Although participants eventually will be assigned to a single presentation group, you may participate in multiple group wiki discussions as we expect that some papers will address topics relevant to multiple groups.

WEDNESDAY 19 MARCH:

Target date for availability of GAW16 rheumatoid arthritis data (Problem 1) and Framingham data (Problem 2).

MONDAY 7 APRIL:

Target date for availability of GAW16 simulated data (Problem 3).

TUESDAY 10 JUNE:

Deadline for suggested changes in presentation group list.

TUESDAY 24 JUNE:

Revised list of presentation groups to mailing list. Up until this point, presentation groups may be added if new areas of interest are identified or dropped if there are too few participants for the topic to remain its own group.

TUESDAY 12 AUGUST (PREVIOUSLY 29 JULY):

Participants should send a PDF version of their contribution (on disk or via email attachment - no hard copies necessary) to Vanessa Olmo by Tuesday 12 August. Your paper must be no longer than five pages, including any references. You are welcome to submit an extended abstract by the 12 August deadline (at least two pages in length but no longer than five pages).  Authors will be allowed to submit an abstract with an Introduction and Methods section only, if results are not yet ready to report. However, as described below, an update to the Results of the analyses must be submitted to your assigned group leader NO LATER THAN 26 August.  All submissions should contain enough information that we can verify that they include an application to one of the GAW16 data sets and can assign you to a presentation group.

Submission of GAW16 contributions will be done electronically.  We will post on the GAW website an automatic submission form.  When submitting your contributions, participants should select as many as three presentation groups (prioritized) for each contribution. You may still participate in multiple group discussions, but your paper will have a primary presentation group assignment for purposes of group meetings and summary talks at GAW16. No investigator may be a first author on more than one submission. These submissions must be received by 12 August if you wish to attend GAW16 as a participant.

The submission form will also ask you to choose YES or NO for receipt of a hard copy of the pre-GAW book.  Books will not be mailed but will be available at the GAW16 Registration Desk to anyone who has requested one.  In addition, please note that we will NOT distribute CDs containing the book (PDF files of the abstracts) prior to GAW.  Instead, we will have a PDF of the pre-GAW book available for download on the GAW WIKI site.

FRIDAY 15 AUGUST (PREVIOUSLY 5 AUGUST):

The organizing committee will review your submission to verify that it includes an application to one of the GAW16 data sets, and inform you of its decision by Friday 15 August. At this point you will be assigned to a primary presentation group. Your paper will be included in this group’s summary talk and at least one author on the paper must attend the group’s meetings at GAW16. However, you are still welcome to participate in as many group discussions as you wish, both online and at the workshop.

SUNDAY 17 AUGUST

Cut off date for hotel reservations for GAW16 and IGES.  Online reservations are now open for the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront Hotel. Click here for reservations and use the group code G-IGES. The conference room rate is $129/night for single / double occupancy. (Note: GAW meeting registration is scheduled to open 1 July. The hotel reservation should be made separately.)

TUESDAY 26 AUGUST

If your 12 August submission did not include Results of your analyses, then an update to the Results must be submitted to your assigned group leader NO LATER THAN Tuesday 26 August.  Any submissions for which Results are not reported by this deadline will not be included in the group presentation at GAW16, nor will the work be eligible for inclusion in the Proceedings published after GAW16.

TUESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER:

PDF files of the pre-GAW abstracts will be available on the GAW WIKI site for download.  Books will be available at GAW16 only for those individuals who request a copy in advance (see paragraph 3 above, under the 12 August date).

17-20 SEPTEMBER:

Genetic Analysis Workshop 16 (GAW16) will be held 17-20 September 2008, just after the International Genetic Epidemiology Society meeting in St. Louis, MO.
